Session DescriptionADmitMac 2.0 provides a new approach to integrating Macintosh computers with Active Directory based computers. This webcast will discuss how ADmitMac 2.0 allows you to handle workgroup management tasks without deploying Open Directory. Single sign-on for AFP and SMB services, distributed file system support, and deploying user home folders on SMB shares will be discussed. ADmitMac now supports Active Directory's name mapping in domains that trust MIT realms for authentication. A comparison between ADmitMac 2.0 and Panther's built-in Active Directory support will be presented. Paul Nelson was one of the original designers of Thursby's DAVE product in 1995, and has a lot of experience with Microsoft's SMB/CIFS protocols, Kerberos and Active Directory. The case study will be presented by Michael Perbix, a Telecommunications Specialist for the Lower Merion School District in Ardmore, PA. Lower Merion School District consists of 10 schools and is a dual platform facility supporting Windows XP and Mac OS 9/OS X clients. They currently support around 5000 computers across the district with a high concentration of laptops in roaming carts for student access. LMSD, in looking for a way to integrate their Active Directory back-end with a mostly-Mac environment, chose Thursby after much deliberation. As LMSD was phasing in OS X, they needed compatibility with SFM and ExtremeZ-IP. Thursby was a robust solution and offered choices that were not yet available from Apple.
